The Association of Division III independents women’s soccer player of the week award was received by Trinity Tiger stand out, and senior captain, Kiauna Hemsley. Kiauna scored a total of 6 goals in the Tiger Classic. Each goal was followed by a modest smile as if she wanted no applause, but her teammates continued to cheer in excitement. To many, Kiauna Hemsley is just a devoted student athlete, but there is more to her than just those two titles. When asked about her pre game rituals, Kiauna replied, “I come in the gym a half and hour before games and get myself dressed and ready.” She also likes to listen to Lil Wayne and other music that will get her pumped and ready for the game. Like most athletes, Kiauna looks up to other athletes that encourage her to continue to play soccer such as professional soccer player, Abby Wambach. Kiauna has watched Abby Wambach’s game for the past couple of years, and she is someone that Kiauna enjoys to watch play since she plays the same position. Kiauna also mentioned that she is inspired by Michael Jordan because of his positive attitude, and the effort that he puts in as an athlete. When asked the question about her musical talent, Kiauna replies, “I have an imaginary drum set in my lap and sticks in my hand. When I get a beat in my head, I pretend to play that beat.” Kiauna Hemsley isn’t just a major contributor for the Trinity Tigers, but she is a student
athlete that wants to better herself, as well as her teammates.
