For Immediate Release October 8, 2009Kansas City, MO.—Kiauna Hemsley, a sophomore forward for Trinity Washington College women’s soccer team, was today named a recipient of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month award for September 2009.
Hemsley led the Tigers with eight goals and one assist in 10 games. With strong foot skills and field awareness, she has scored four game-winning goals, all of which were 1-0 with wins against Patrick Henry College, Washington Adventist and Lincoln University.
The Association of Division III Independents consists of 14 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year.
All competing student-athletes from the Association’s 14 member were eligible for the award. Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athlete from September. The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association’s Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
