The Trinity Tigers Basketball Team returned from a weekend trip to Messiah College, PA with a win and a loss in the Messiah Invitational Tip-Off Tournament. On Friday, November 17th, the Tigers fell to the tournament hosts and nationally ranked Messiah College 88-51. Messiah’s size and deadly perimeter shooting allowed them to stretch an early 10 point lead which increased to 29 by halftime. Trinity slowed Messiah’s scoring efforts in the second half but the large lead was too much to overcome. Junior, Janel Hamilton was a bright spot for Trinity as she scored a team high 15 points followed by freshman, Preshuse Jackson with 7 points.

Trinity rebounded Saturday with a hard fought 67-62 victory over John Jay College (NY). The Tigers carried the momentum into the lock room as senior, Courtney Knox, hit a three-pointer as the first half ended to tie the score 32-32. In the second half, the Tigers were sparked by the play of freshman, Rahesia McDonald and junior Janel Hamilton. McDonald brought the crowd to their feet as she scored on a slashing drive to the basket while splitting three John Jay defenders. Another crowd pleasing episode occurred as McDonald penetrated to the basket with a reverse dribble through John Jay defenders and slipped a magic-like, no-look pass to Hamilton who was fouled on the attempted lay-up. Hamilton had another impressive scoring night as she knocked down 4 three-pointers and shot 5 for 5 from the free-throw line to finish the night with 25 points. McDonald finished the night with 10 points followed by Ashley West who had 9.

Hamilton’s weekend average of 20 points per game landed her a spot on the 2006 Messiah Tip-Off Tournament all Tournament Team. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday at Gallaudet Unviersity at 7:00 pm.
