The 2006-07 Trinity Basketball Team will take on a brand new look under the former assistant and first year head coach Gary Blake. “It will be all about rebuilding and continuing to rely on the one constant we have had for the last three years, Senior Lauren Hall, ” comments Blake.

Returning Players

Leading the Tigers will be senior Lauren Hall (Baltimore, MD). Lauren returns after averaging an AWCC Conference leading 18.8 ppg, 5.32 assists and 2.37 steals per game last season. “Lauren will surely continue to provide the scoring punch that she has over the last three season and will hopefully be a top candidate for Most Outstanding Player and All-AWCC First team,” notes Blake. Joining Hall will be Senior Courtney Knox (Washington, DC), Sophomore Danielle Owens (Washington, DC) and Junior Sharell Kyle (Washington, DC) who sat our last season due to an injury. “Knox, Owens and Kyle will be expected to provide defensive toughness and leadership on the floor,” Blake comments. “On the offensive end, each is capable of putting up big numbers on any given night.”

Newcomers

This season’s program includes a few new members who will have an immediate impact on the floor: Junior college transfer Janel Hamilton (Seat Pleasant, MD) comes to Trinity after a great Sophomore season at Prince George’s Community College where she averaged 12.7 ppg and 3.2 assists per game. She helped that program to an impressive showing at the Division II Junior College National Championships last season. “Janel will come in and start at the one and two guard positions. Her speed, perimeter shooting and decision making will make her an immediate threat.” says Blake.

Ashely West (Forestville, MD) transfers in to Trinity after red-shirting last year at Division I Virginia Commonwealth University. Before VCU, the 6’2″ West averaged 17.8 ppg and 10.7 rpg at Prince George’s Community College. “While at PGCC, Ashley garnered honors as First-team All-Conference as well as Athlete of Year. She looks to get back into form and establish herself as a force in the post,” says Blake.

Sherrese Russell (Prince Frederick, MD) is yet another Junior College transfer from College of Southern Maryland in La Plata. She put up good numbers while averaging 14.2 ppg, 5.2 rrg and 3.5 assists per game. “Sherrese is a tireless worker on the floor. She can bang in the post or step outside for the mid-range jumper. She has great speed, good court awareness and shows maturity beyond her years,” states Blake.

A group of talented Freshman adds to the mix this season. “This is part of my rebuilding efforts, states Blake. I wanted to bring in some athletes who will be around for four years and can grow with the programs.” Preshuse Jackson (Temple Hills, MD), Rahesia McDonald (Washington, DC) and Imani Williams (Ft. Washington, MD) will all add depth to the guard positions. Their athleticism, quickness and ability to creat will allow them to see time right away. Sheree Henderson (Dayton, OH) is a good inside-outside threat. “She is always around the ball. Most teams won’t know how to defend her because of her versatility,” said Blake. “She can play all five positions on the court.” Brandy Boulette (Fairfax, VA) and Jessica Townes (Midlothian, VA) round out the freshman class. “Again, we have very versatile players,” says Blake. “Both these post players can create inside or step out and shoot the mid-range jumper making them hard to defend.”
