Metro Red Line, Saturday, November 25 to Sunday, December 10, 2017: No Trains Between Fort Totten and Silver Spring
Beginning on Saturday, November 25, through Sunday, December 10, there will be no Red Line trains operating between Fort Totten and Silver Spring (north of Trinity’s Brookland station) to undertake a major capital improvement project. The Takoma station will be closed.
There will be limited supplemental bus service between Ft. Totten and Silver Spring.
If you travel on the Red Line north of the Brookland station, plan extra time to travel to and from Trinity during this Metro project.
Red Line weekday train service will operate as follows:
- Between Glenmont and Silver Spring every 12 minutes
- Between Shady Grove and Fort Totten every 10 minutes (between Grosvenor and NoMa-Gallaudet U every 5 minutes during weekday peak periods)
- After 9:30 p.m., trains will operate every 15 minutes
Limited free shuttle buses will be provided as an option between Silver Spring, Takoma and Fort Totten stations for riders with no other travel alternative. Customers should allow additional travel time.
On the weekend of December 2-3:
- No Red Line trains between Fort Totten and Glenmont. Limited free shuttle buses will be provided between Fort Totten, Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont.
NOTE: Shuttle buses may be extremely crowded and customers may need to wait for multiple buses due to long lines. Metro riders who have the ability to do so should consider alternate travel options and avoid traveling during rush hour if possible. All customers using shuttle buses must tap their SmarTrip card when exiting the station and tap again when re-entering the Metrorail system. You will only be charged for a single trip. Customers with trips originating at a closed station need only tap upon entering the Metrorail system.
