NCATE 2006

TO: The Trinity Campus Community

FR: President Patricia McGuire

I am very pleased to share with you these important items about Trinity’s accreditation:

First, Trinity’s School of Education has received full accreditation from NCATE, the National Council on the Accreditation of Teacher Education. NCATE is the premier national accrediting body for Education programs, and we are simply delighted to receive this recognition. This is the first time that Trinity has sought NCATE accreditation, and the process took nearly five years from start to finish. Please join me in congratulating Dean of Education Suellen Meara, Assistant Dean Lynn Johnson, Director of Teacher Education Dr. Roberta Dorr, and all of the faculty, staff and students in the School of Education who made this achievement possible.

Second, the culmination of our Middle States Self-Study period will occur in the week ahead when we welcome a team of visitors representing the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Middle States is the organization that provides overall institutional accreditation. Trinity is a charter member of Middle States, having been a fully accredited member since the founding of Middle States in 1921. Every ten years, colleges and universities conduct thorough self-studies to ensure our compliance with the accreditation standards, and the visiting team reviews our work and certifies our compliance. The team is composed of faculty and administrators from similarly-sized institutions in the Middle States region.

Our visiting team will be on campus and meeting with various groups from Sunday evening through Wednesday morning. I know that all members of the Trinity campus family will extend our customary hospitality and welcome to these important guests. Many thanks to all faculty, staff and students who have already contributed so much to our Self-Study report.

Thanks to all for your hard work and dedication to Trinity!
