Strategic Communication and Public Relations (M.A.)

Business women in their element. Woman smiling on laptop, woman taking a business call, and woman shaking hands after a business meeting. The Strategic Communication and Public Relations graduate program prepares students to be effective public relations practitioners and communications managers. Students will combine the study of Strategic Communication focusing on how individuals and organizations work and use communication and media to persuade and influence key audiences with the practical PR skills of effective writing, messaging and audience engagement.  At the completion of the program students will have the skills needed to successfully connect organizations with their key publics, including employees, consumers, government and the media.  Students will know how to communicate the best message, through the right channels.  This innovative curriculum will prepare students to work in today’s changing media environment including simultaneously pitching stories to journalists, writing a blog for the public and posting to social media. The industry demands that public relations practitioners have expertise in writing, information/social marketing campaigns, web design, visual media, critical and strategic thinking, and expertise in media practices and reputation and crisis management.
