&#8212; a bold environmental action that, 126 years later, has regenerated the forest habitats, helped to restore lakes and wild streams, and created a place of beauty and peace that should be a model for environmental stewardship elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7639\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/blue-jay-2-Large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"706\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/blue-jay-2-Large.jpg 1392w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/blue-jay-2-Large-168x130.jpg 168w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/blue-jay-2-Large-258x200.jpg 258w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/blue-jay-2-Large-768x596.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/blue-jay-2-Large-516x400.jpg 516w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 100vw, 706px\" \/>Sadly, we are living in a political moment in which certain politicians, encouraged by certain corporate interests, seem to gain favor by trashing environmental stewardship, calling for an end to environmental protections and even denying climate science.\u00a0 We are witnessing the appalling destruction of the Environmental Protection Agency and the years of efforts through regulatory action to prevent pollution, clean up rivers and the very air we breathe.\u00a0 In New York, there even have been efforts to overturn the &#8220;forever wild&#8221; provisions, but fortunately, they failed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7640\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/frog-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/frog-2.jpg 3594w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/frog-2-167x130.jpg 167w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/frog-2-256x200.jpg 256w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/frog-2-768x599.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/frog-2-513x400.jpg 513w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px\" \/>Environmental stewardship is an integral part of Catholic social teaching.\u00a0 Care for God&#8217;s Creation is inextricably linked to upholding the dignity and worth of human life &#8212; humans cannot thrive in circumstances in which the air, water and natural habitats are routinely polluted.\u00a0 Pope Francis put a clear focus on the moral imperative of environmental protection in his landmark encyclical <a href=\"https:\/\/laudatosi.com\/watch\">Laudato Si<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI urgently appeal\u2026for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet.\u00a0 We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all\u2026We require a new and universal solidarity\u2026All of us can cooperate as instruments of god for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.\u201d\u00a0<\/em> \u2014 <strong>Pope Francis<\/strong>, #14\u00a0in the Encyclical Letter <a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html\"><em>Laudato Si, On Care for our Common Home<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7641\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/beaver.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/beaver.jpg 3822w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/beaver-203x130.jpg 203w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/beaver-313x200.jpg 313w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/beaver-768x491.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/07\/beaver-626x400.jpg 626w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px\" \/>All of the forest creatures &#8212;
