And every beginning signifies an end.\u00a0 As you end your college days, your hard work and study, your inner growth and development, you begin a path of lifelong learning.\u00a0 Your Trinity Days may be complete, your learning never ends!\u00a0 May you continue to learn as long as you are drawing breath!\u00a0 St. Julie Billiart, the foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, a French woman of faith from the early 1800\u2019s, loved God and instilled in the early Sisters and students this idea that learning is on-going and life-long.\u00a0 St. Julie would love the confidence and the courage you are exhibiting today!\u00a0 May your Commencement be a new beginning of further learning, deeper growth.\u00a0 Congratulations!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2018\/05\/sr-ann-howard-to-graduates-may-your-inherit-peace\/brenda-medium\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7467\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7467 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Brenda-Medium.jpg\" alt=\"Brenda Alonso\" width=\"469\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Brenda-Medium.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Brenda-Medium-173x130.jpg 173w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Brenda-Medium-267x200.jpg 267w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Brenda-Medium-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Brenda-Medium-533x400.jpg 533w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 469px) 100vw, 469px\" \/><\/a>Today, in Hannah\u2019s words, in Hebrew Scripture , we hear a \u2018fiat! to God\u2019 in Hannah\u2019s desire to fulfill her promise to God.\u00a0 Her child would exercise right relationship with God and others.\u00a0 And in the reading from the Prophet, on Children, which is read at many graduations, we hear that children are born to live their own God-given lives.\u00a0 May the direction be&#8211; like Samuel, like children of all ages\u2014a trajectory be towards a full life.\u00a0 One that bends towards peace and justice.\u00a0 The gospel reading from John, read this Sunday in our churches, tells us that Jesus\u2019 word was PEACE.\u00a0 Peace beyond fear or doubt&#8211; \u00a0PEACE is what he breathed on those gathered.\u00a0 Martin Luther King, Jr. is known to have said, \u201cTrue peace is not the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice.\u201d\u00a0 As you step into your preferred future at <u>commencement,<\/u> draw some inspiration from the words we just heard, read by Dean Meechie, when Jesus appeared to his friends after his death\u2026 and resurrection, Not,\u201cI\u2019m glad that\u2019s over!\u2019 or \u201cYou have no idea what I have been through!\u201d he said, \u201cPeace be with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2018\/05\/sr-ann-howard-to-graduates-may-your-inherit-peace\/ann-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7465\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7465 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Ann-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"343\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Ann-2.jpg 5248w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Ann-2-173x130.jpg 173w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Ann-2-267x200.jpg 267w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Ann-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2018\/05\/Ann-2-533x400.jpg 533w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 343px) 100vw, 343px\" \/><\/a>In our world today, on the planet earth, and in our nation, and in our neighborhoods, and in our families and surely in our hearts, PEACE is a desired entity, a goal for which we work, for which we yearn.<\/p>\n<p>These words are so pertinent to college graduates as you inherit your place in the world, may it be a world at peace.\u00a0 PEACE so our world as nations, as peoples of various cultures and geographies and sovereignties, can live in mutual respect and trust one another.\u00a0 <strong>PEACE be with you<\/strong>.\u00a0 Human Relations majors, political scientists, international studies majors, we ask God to bless you in your future calling.<\/p>\n<p>PEACE so our planet, Earth, which is our common home, may be cared for and respected for the fragile balance that makes it work.
