{"id":5336,"date":"2016-05-15T15:17:15","date_gmt":"2016-05-15T19:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/?p=5336"},"modified":"2016-05-15T15:29:59","modified_gmt":"2016-05-15T19:29:59","slug":"the-list-that-trumps-all-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2016\/05\/the-list-that-trumps-all-others\/","title":{"rendered":"The List that Trumps All Others!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2011\/06\/the-list-biggest-liar-edition\/\">THE LIST <\/a>is back!\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2011\/05\/the-list-is-back\/\">LIST<\/a> THAT KEEPS ON LIVING, the blog that keeps on writing itself.\u00a0 But now, this may be the LIST that TRUMPS all others!\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Read on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been writing about the LIST since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2010\/05\/the-list\/\">at least 2010<\/a>.\u00a0 This is a periodic roundup of men who just think they are so special that the normal rules of respectful conduct involving women do not seem to apply to them.\u00a0 This is bi-partisan, non-partisan, totally about observing what goes on in the public eye.\u00a0 What goes on outside of the public eye must be even worse, if this is what we see.<\/p>\n<p>My last blog about this was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2015\/07\/the-list-huxtable-hoax-edition\/\">The List: Huxtable Hoax Edition<\/a> concerning the dozens of women accusing Bill Cosby of sexual harassment.\u00a0 That blog featured a cover story in <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/thecut\/2015\/07\/bill-cosbys-accusers-speak-out.html\">New York<\/a> Magazine with the first person stories of the accusers.\u00a0 Cosby is now disgraced and trials are ensuing about some of the allegations where the statutes of limitations have not run.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/15\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-women.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;clickSource=story-heading&amp;module=first-column-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news\">New York Times<\/a> has published a story with interviews of many women who have been the objects (and I use the word deliberately) of Donald Trump&#8217;s attention, sometimes welcome, sometimes unwanted.\u00a0 The story is scandalous.\u00a0 A person with any kind of moral conscience, any remaining shred of decency, would at least slink away for a while.\u00a0 But not The Donald.\u00a0 Heck, this is a person who, allegedly, pretended he was his own publicist to call reporters to brag about his sexual conquests.\u00a0 Geez.<\/p>\n<p>Ok, so nobody&#8217;s surprised about a story detailing Trump&#8217;s misogynist behavior toward women.\u00a0 Duh, right?\u00a0 That seems to be the official position of Reince Priebus, head of the Republican National Committee, who said on Fox News today that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/reince-priebus-donald-trump-women_us_573875eee4b060aa781a8971\">&#8220;people just don&#8217;t care&#8221;<\/a> about Trump&#8217;s disgraceful treatment of women.<\/p>\n<p>Hello, Reince?\u00a0 Last I looked in the mirror I was a people, too, and I do care.\u00a0 I know a lot of people who actually do care.\u00a0 Many of them are women, yes.\u00a0 But quite a few are also men.<\/p>\n<p>PEOPLE DO CARE, REINCE!\u00a0 This callous, dismissive attitude toward the shameful behavior of the presumptive Republican nominee for president is evidence of the utterly amoral pit into which some politicians and their handlers have fallen.<\/p>\n<p>Was\/Is Trump&#8217;s behavior toward women worse than others on THE LIST?\u00a0 Relative badness is not the point.\u00a0 The man is likely to become president of the United States. (OK, cue the Bill Clinton &amp; Monica, Jennifer, Paula, etc. rebuttal.\u00a0 Point taken. Bill is definitely featured on THE LIST.\u00a0 But using the Bill Clinton scandal to explain away Trump&#8217;s ugly behavior seems a bit self-defeating.\u00a0 But let&#8217;s stay with the current story and not the old news&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>THE PEOPLE (that&#8217;s us!) have a right and obligation to question whether his track record on women will become his policy inclination.\u00a0 We have a right and obligation to know about his moral character, his respect for human dignity, whether he has violated the law or normal expectations for behaviors toward others that tell us the kind of leader he might be.\u00a0 (In the same vein, we have a right to know his financial dealings and to see his tax returns, just as we expect for all candidates, and his brush-off of that issue is further indication of serious concerns about truthfulness and character),<\/p>\n<p>People can vote for whomever they want, but people must know the facts.\u00a0 The record on Trump&#8217;s treatment of women is of grave concern.\u00a0 His handlers should take it very, very seriously.\u00a0 People do care about the moral quality of their leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contrary to the dismissive statements of some political handlers, people really do care about the moral character of leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":51,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[509,6,29],"tags":[1075,755,1648,374,780,1647,1638],"class_list":["post-5336","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-civil-human-rights","category-media","category-women","tag-donald-trump","tag-presidential-campaign","tag-reince-priebus","tag-republican-national-committee","tag-sexism","tag-trump-and-women","tag-women"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5336","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/51"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5336"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5336\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5336"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5336"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5336"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
