{"id":4498,"date":"2014-05-11T14:18:11","date_gmt":"2014-05-11T18:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/?p=4498"},"modified":"2014-05-11T14:18:11","modified_gmt":"2014-05-11T18:18:11","slug":"more-great-achievements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2014\/05\/more-great-achievements\/","title":{"rendered":"More Great Achievements!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The achievements keep rolling in!\u00a0 Talented Trinity students, faculty and alumnae are reporting many remarkable accomplishments in this commencement season.\u00a0 Here are a few more:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>From the College of Arts and<\/strong><strong> Sciences<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Christopher Bishop of Psychology and Alumna Ebony Iyanna Abraham, a 2013\u00a0<em>magna cum laude<\/em> graduate in Psychology,\u00a0 will co-present a paper on &#8220;Exploring Juvenile Delinquency:\u00a0 An Assessment of Educational and Psychological Concerns&#8221; at the upcoming American Psychological Association conference in Washington this summer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>From the School of<\/strong><strong> E<\/strong><strong>ducation<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>School of Education Counseling candidate <strong>Jane Ssemanda<\/strong> has received a National Forum for Black Public Administrators \u2013 Washington, DC Chapter (NFBPA-WDC) Scholarship Award which \u201crecognizes an African-American or minority graduate student working towards a Master\u2019s degree in Public Administration or a related field who exemplifies outstanding leadership, scholarship, and public service.\u201d Ms. Ssemanda has also been accepted into the NFBPA mentoring program. \u201dThe program is an intensive, eight-month initiative with a two-fold focus. First, emphasis is placed on skills building, with specialized workshops offered during two group meetings. The second, and equally important, focus is embodied in informal interaction between mentors and prot\u00e9g\u00e9s throughout the program period.<\/li>\n<li>Two Counseling students &#8212; <strong>Bonita Reyes and Evelyn Robinson<\/strong> \u2013 and two Counseling faculty members &#8212; <strong>Dr. Cynthia Greer and Dr. Xanthia Johnson<\/strong> &#8212; are each contributing to a new publication: Expressive Arts Interventions for School Counselors which is due out later this year. Dr. Greer and Dr. Johnson worked closely with the two students in the development of their contributions.<\/li>\n<li>DCPS Teacher of the Year and Trinity Alumna <strong>Kathy Hollowell-Makle<\/strong> was Michelle Obama&#8217;s guest at the State of the Union<\/li>\n<li>Mr. <strong>Larry Savoy<\/strong>, M.S.A.,\u201907 and Principal of Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School, Takoma Park, Maryland, was the featured Sower\u2019s Seed speaker at the March Sower\u2019s Seed Lecture.<\/li>\n<li>Director of Counseling programs <strong>Dr. Deborah Haskins<\/strong> received the 2014 C. Harold McCully Recognition Award from the District of Columbia Counseling Association (DCCA).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Cynthia Greer<\/strong>, Associate Professor of Counseling and Director of Educating for Change, will have an essay published in the literary magazine, the Little Patuxent Review. The essay, Doris and the Dolls, is about Dr. Greer&#8217;s personal experience with skin color issues and the impact of the Doll Study that was an integral part of the Supreme court decision on Brown vs. Board of Education.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Philip Lucas,<\/strong> Adjunct Instructor in Counseling, was appointed as Chairperson to the Mayor&#8217;s Advisory Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jordan James,<\/strong> who finished his requirements for an MAT in Secondary English in December, received the Ann Crook Coluzzi Award for Teacher Interns by Provost Virginia Broaddus at the Founders Day Honors Convocation in the Trinity Chapel on Wednesday, April 23.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Allison Garagusi,<\/strong> who completed her MAT in Special Education in December, is Trinity Washington University School of Education\u2019s recipient of the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators (MATE) 2014 Distinguished Teacher Candidate Award.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assistant Professor Meghan Cosier<\/strong> has just published a chapter in the new book, Becoming a Great Inclusive Educator, edited by Scot Danforth (Peter Lang International Academic Publishers, April 30, 2014). Dr. Cosier\u2019s chapter is titled, \u201cUsing Numbers and Narrative to Support Inclusive Schooling.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Assistant Professor and Director of Counseling <strong>Dr. Deborah Haskins<\/strong> has a new publication! \u201dSelf-Renewal With African Americans in Psychotherapy\u201d appears in Clinicians Guide to Self-Renewal, edited by Robert J. Wicks and Elizabeth A. Maynard (Wiley).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Darrell Holloman II<\/strong>, 2011 MAT in Secondary Social Studies, received Princes George&#8217;s County Gazette&#8217;s 2013 My Favorite Teacher Award in November 2013. Because his wife got a job as the Assistant Attorney General in Yap, Micronesia, Darrell is now teaching at Yap Catholic High School in Micronesia. He says, \u201cBecause of my Master\u2019s degree I not only teach but help with teacher development.
