{"id":4492,"date":"2014-05-06T09:06:16","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T13:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/?p=4492"},"modified":"2014-05-06T10:51:49","modified_gmt":"2014-05-06T14:51:49","slug":"great-achievements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/2014\/05\/great-achievements\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Achievements!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/11\/science-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4281\" alt=\"science 4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/11\/science-4-710x372.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/11\/science-4-710x372.jpg 710w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/11\/science-4-223x117.jpg 223w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/11\/science-4-345x181.jpg 345w, https:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/11\/science-4.jpg 1153w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Rotterman Scholar Anna Roland &#8217;16 presents her poster on Human Genome Sequencing.<br \/>\nShe will spend the summer as a research intern at Johns Hopkins University<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Graduation season is upon us and on this blog for the next two weeks I will feature the great achievements of Trinity students and graduates from the last academic year.\u00a0 If you or someone you know has a &#8220;great achievement&#8221; that deserves a spotlight here, please email me with that news.\u00a0 Congratulations to all!<\/p>\n<p>Students in the sciences have been simply amazing this year.\u00a0 Thanks to the great work of our Science Faculty, students presented numerous poster sessions to educate the entire campus community on important topics like Human Genome Mapping, Pandemics and Globalization, and other issues.\u00a0 At the end of the academic year, students and faculty published Trinity&#8217;s first ever scientific literary magazine, <em>Metamorphosis<\/em>, and it is terrific.\u00a0 I hope we can get a web-based version soon to share more broadly.\u00a0 (I will be giving a big shout out to Trinity&#8217;s historic literary magazine <em>THE RECORD<\/em> in one of my next blogs.)<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to Clare Boothe Luce Professors Dr. Mia Thompson Ray, Dr. Karobi Moitra, Dr. Patrice Moss, Dr. Cynthia DeBoy and Dr. Kerry Luse for so much great work with our students.\u00a0 Thanks as well to Dr. Shizuki Hsieh, Dr. Richard Holland and all faculty and staff who have worked so hard to create a vibrant environment for achievement in the sciences among our students.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Patrice Moss, Clare Boothe Luce Professor of Biochemistry, recently announced that six of her students have gained prestigious summer research internships at notable laboratories and research universities.\u00a0 These students include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Anna Roland<\/strong>, Rotterman Scholar and rising junior in Biochemistry, will spend the summer at the Johns Hopkins University SIP, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care in Baltimore, MD<\/li>\n<li><strong>Karen Hernandez<\/strong>, Luce Scholar, a rising\u00a0senior in Biochemistry, will intern at the Baylor College of Medicine HGSC\/G-Great Program in Houston, Texas<\/li>\n<li><strong>Charlene Valdez<\/strong>, rising sophomore in Biology, will be at Georgetown University in the ARTC Summer Program in Washington<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michelle Jaldin<\/strong>, rising senior in Biology, will be at Georgetown University in the ARTC Summer Program in Washington<\/li>\n<li><strong>Naya Eady<\/strong>, rising\u00a0junior in Biology, will be in the National Institutes of Health National Institute on Aging SIP Program in Baltimore<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bre&#8217;Anna James<\/strong>, Luce Scholar and graduating senior, will also be at the NIH National Institute on Aging in Baltimore<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sonia Garcia<\/strong>, rising senior in Biology and Biochemistry, will work with Luce Professor Dr. Cindy DeBoy at Children&#8217;s National Medical Center in Washington<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clementine Etoundi<\/strong>,rising senior and Biochemistry major, will have her internship at the National Institutes of Health National Institute on Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH\/NDDK) STEP-UP program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Congratulations to all science students and faculty!\u00a0 Your achievements make all of Trinity proud!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trinity students in the sciences have remarkable achievements this year.
