Trinity teachers and principals ruled<\/em> the “Standing Ovation” awards for D.C. Public School personnel on November 4 at the Kennedy Center.\u00a0 Trinity graduates took top honors as the Principal of the Year, Teacher of the Year, and many other award winners.\u00a0 In fact, out of 38 awards given last week, 20 awardees are Trinity graduates or have participated in Trinity’s Continuing Education programs for teachers and school leaders.\u00a0 Congratulations to all!\u00a0 Here’s the list and some profiles of the awardees (click on the names to see their achievements):<\/p>\n

Principal of the Year:\u00a0 Abdullah Zaki<\/a>, Kelly Miller Middle School
\n<\/strong>Class of 2005, MSA in Educational Administration<\/strong><\/p>\n

Principal Zaki’s pride in the achievements of Kelly Miller students comes through in his remarks on his award video<\/a>.\u00a0 He clearly connects with his students and makes each one feel welcome and part of the school family.\u00a0 During his time as principal at Kelly Miller, the academic performance of students has improved and truancy has virtually disappeared.<\/p>\n

Trinity grads are establishing a tradition of winning Principal of the Year — last year’s Principal of the Year was David Pinder<\/a>, MSA Class of 2007, at that time principal of McKinley Tech, now executive director of New Leaders DC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Teacher of the Year:\u00a0 Kathy Hollowell-Makle<\/a>, Kindergarten Teacher, Simon Elementary Schoool
\nClass of 2000, MAT in Elementary Education<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I believe in them” says Ms. Hollowell-Makle of her young pupils, and their responsiveness to her amazing teaching is very clear in their eyes and smiles on her award video<\/a>.\u00a0 This is the kind of teaching we need in every classroom!\u00a0 First turned-onto teaching through Teach for America, Ms. Hollowell-Makle has become a great role model not only for her students but other teachers as well.<\/p>\n

Excellence in Teaching Award:\u00a0 William A. Taylor<\/a>, Secondary Mathematics, Wheatley Education Campus
\nClass of 2011, MSA in Educational Administration<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Rubenstein Award winner in 2011, William A. Taylor is renowned for the exceptional performance of his students in mathematics.\u00a0 Students on his award video<\/a>\u00a0say, “He gives us hope to succeed, he inspires us,” and “He makes math brighter for me.”\u00a0 One young woman asserts, “Just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean he can’t be my role model.”\u00a0 High praise!<\/p>\n
