subjects to photograph.\u00a0 With those endlessly fascinating yellow eyes and tendency to shape-shift posture constantly, the wading bird never fails to show some interesting traits.\u00a0 I caught this one in some marshy areas along Lake Durant:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/07\/gbh-durant1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" banks of the Cedar River Flow&#8230; taking off in flight to the far side of the lake when she sensed something moving nearby&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a from a dam along the Cedar River deep in the forest&#8230;. to get to this place you have to drive a 12 mile dirt road high up into the mountains near Indian Lake&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/07\/cedar-loon-landscape.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4084\" alt=\"cedar loon this wilderness to myself!\u00a0 Now as for the stand-up paddleboard&#8230; this is all the rage up here, but I confess I don&#8217;t quite get it.\u00a0 Looks uncomfortable, but I suppose it&#8217;s a way to display strength, coordination, and, well, some nice abs&#8230; You won&#8217;t see me on a stand-up paddleboard any time soon!\u00a0 And check out the little doggie on the kayak&#8230;.\u00a0\u00a0 Everyone likes to paddle around&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/07\/cedar-merganser-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This common merganser and her chicks came around a bend in the lakeside, and when they sensed my presence (I keep a distance,\u00a0my lens is long, but their senses are longer!&#8230;) they did that racing thing that is quite amazing to watch&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2013\/07\/merganser-race.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4090\" alt=\"merganser race\"
