New Science Faculty!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As our new academic year begins, we have a very strong class of new colleagues joining the faculty ranks at Trinity.\u00a0 Because the new group is quite large, I will be featuring them in segments starting today with the new faculty in the sciences.\u00a0 Please join me in extending a big Trinity welcome to our new science faculty:<\/p>\n<p><a Boothe Luce Professor of Microbiology<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\">Dr. Moitra brings a distinguished track record of cancer research from her work in the Laboratory of Experimental Immunology at the National Cancer Institute.\u00a0 She has taught at Ramananda College in Bishnupur, West Bengal, as well as at Hood College in Maryland and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.\u00a0 She earned her degrees at the University of Burdwan in West Bengal, India, including her B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. all with majors in Zoology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2012\/08\/Moss-Patrice-CAS-Medium.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Boothe Luce Professor of Biochemistry<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\">Dr. Moss joins the full-time faculty as a Luce Professor after teaching Biochemistry as a Trinity adjunct in prior years.\u00a0 She has also taught at Meharry Medical College where she earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry\/Cancer Biology, and she has an active cancer research agenda. \u00a0She earned her B.S. <em>cum laude<\/em> in Biology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2012\/08\/Ray-Mia-CAS-Medium.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3450\" title=\"Ray, Mia CAS (max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Dr. Mia Thompson Ray, Clare Boothe Luce Professor of Biology<\/em><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\">Dr. Ray has distinguished herself as a creative teacher and researcher in the field of human anatomy and zoology.\u00a0 She has teaching and research experience at Howard University, the University of the District of Columbia, the National Institute of Health, and the Stanley Medical Research Institute Brain Laboratory.\u00a0 She holds the B.S. in Mathematics from Spelman College and her Ph.D. in Anatomy from Howard University.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2012\/08\/Hsieh-Shizuka-CAS-Medium.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3451\" title=\"Hsieh, Shizuka CAS (Medium)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/president\/files\/2012\/08\/Hsieh-Shizuka-CAS-Medium-265x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"400\" <em>Visiting Associate Professor of Chemistry<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\" align=\"left\">Dr. Hsieh is on leave from Smith College where she holds tenure in the Chemistry Department.\u00a0 She has extensive teaching and research experience, not only at Smith but also at Oberlin College, the University of Maryland at College Park, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (where she was a Science and Technology Policy Fellow for the American Association for the Advancement of Science), and the Associated Kyoto Program where she was a Visiting Faculty Fellow.\u00a0 In addition to Smith teaching awards, among many other awards she earned a Marshall Scholarship, Fulbright Scholarship, National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.\u00a0 She earned her B.A. <em>summa cum laude<\/em> in Chemistry at Carleton College, and her D.Phil. in Physical Chemistry from Oxford University.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Our three new Clare Boothe Luce professors listed above join our current Luce Professors Dr. Kerry Luse in Mathematics and Dr. Cynthia DeBoy in Biology.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hluce.org\/cblprogram.aspx\">Clare Boothe Luce Program<\/a> is the remarkable result of the legacy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hluce.org\/cblbio.aspx\">Clare Boothe Luce<\/a> whose bequest established the program in 1988 at Trinity and 13 other colleges and universities.\u00a0 The Luce program is the nation&#8217;s most important program of support for women in math, science and engineering.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Congratulations to our new Luce professors and all of our new science faculty!<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<p align=\"left\"><em>Follow me on Twitter
