In making their tuition decision, the Trustees carefully weighed the financial needs of our students alongside the inevitable increases we will experience in faculty salaries, technology and maintenance costs, and other goods and services that are necessary to support Trinity’s educational enterprise.

For 2004-2005, Trinity’s full-time undergraduate tuition will increase 3% from $16,220 to $16,700, an increase of $480. The fee for a residence hall room with double occupancy will not increase, remaining at $3,190 for the academic year. The board (food service) fee will increase 3%, from $3,980 to $4,100 (19 meal plan, comparable increases for other meal plans). Overall, the “comprehensive fee” of tuition, room and board will increase 2.5% from $23,390 to $23,990, a total increase of $600. The 2004-2005 tuition for all other programs is set forth in the rate schedule listed below. A more detailed schedule of all fees at Trinity is published on Trinity’s website.

Trinity’s tuition and fees remain significantly lower than other private colleges and universities in the Washington region and around the nation; some of the other local tuition prices will exceed $30,000 next year, and at some well known local universities, the total cost of attendance now exceeds $40,000 per year. Nationally, the tuition price at four-year private institutions like Trinity now averages $19,700, well above Trinity’s tuition. Additionally, this year Trinity is returning $3.4 million to students in the form of institutional grants and scholarships. Most of those grants and scholarships go to students in the College of Arts and Sciences, where the total tuition revenues are $8.7 million. Trinity’s operating budget is $20.1 million in Fiscal 2004. For more details on these numbers, please see the charts listed below.

As always, I am happy to discuss Trinity’s tuition price, costs and budget with you. Thank you for your continuing participation in Trinity’s important educational mission.

Sincerely,

President Patricia McGuire

College of Arts & Sciences Tuition, 2004-2005 Dear Students and Families in Trinity’s College of Arts and Sciences: At their meeting on February 6, 2004, the Trinity College Board of Trustees established tuition and fee prices for 2004-2005.
