Weekly Service Opportunities

Christ House (Tuesdays)

  • Service Time: Every Tuesday students will meet at the Trinity Shuttle at 4:15 pm and return at 7:30 pm.  Capacity: 3-4 students.
  • Date: September 12 through December 12, 2017, Fall Semester.
  • Description: Come cook for and serve dinner to the residents at Christ House. This ministry has attracted Trinity students who want to truly encounter the sick and homeless in our city. Christ House, a residential medical facility, offers caring, and complete healthcare to homeless men and women. As one volunteer put it, the people that you see on the streets become more real to you, with real stories, when you cook for and serve a meal to them.

Franciscan Monastery (Saturdays)

  • Trinity students have the opportunity to work in an organic garden right here in the middle of the city. If you feel close to our Mother Earth and find peace being in the outdoors, growing food for poor people in the District, this is the place for you on Saturdays. It’s so easy to go on Saturday mornings: it’s just a short walk from the Brookland metro station! All food grown in the garden is donated to the food banks in the District of Columbia.
  • This trip resumes in the Fall semester 2017. Meet our student facilitator Komi Koffi at the Trinity shuttle on Saturday morning, 9:15 a.m. We work from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. Please note the dress code, below! Make your reservation to go with Koffi beforehand!
  • To find our more about the organic garden, please contact Lou Maroulis , the Master Gardener.
  • Directions:  Students meet at the Trinity Shuttle, which goes to the Brookland Metro station. Upon arrival, either transfer to the H6 bus–direction “Fort Lincoln” and disembark at 14th and Quincy Streets, NE, or walk up hill on Newton Street, NE to 14th Street, NE and turn left for 14th and Quincy Streets NE (approximately 15 minute walk). Upon arrival, ask the Monastery’s security guard for directions to the greenhouse in the back behind the Monastery’s Gift Shop.
  • Attire: Dress in closed-toe shoes, loose, comfortable clothing, and hat. Bring sunscreen, food, insect repellant. Water is provided. Information cards can be found at the Campus Ministry office or bulletin board.
