Washington Journalists Tom Sherwood and Harry Jaffe to Discuss Their Book, “Dream City,” and the Current State of D.C., Thursday, February 19

Prominent Washington journalists Tom Sherwood, reporter for NBC4 News, and Harry Jaffe, senior writer for Washingtonian magazine, will discuss their book, “Dream City,” on campus on Thursday, February 19, 10:00 am to 11:30 am Social Hall. “Dream City”, considered to be one of the most important books on city politics, big personalities (including the Mayor Marion Barry), racial tensions and important events in the District of Columbia over the course of the last two decades. The program is open to all Trinity students, faculty and staff.

First published in 1994, “Dream City: Race, Power and the Decline of Washington, D.C.” was updated in 2014 with the publication of the 20th anniversary edition of the book: “Dream City: Race, Power and the Decline/Revival? of Washington, D.C.” A Dream City website expands the book with news and resources, and Twitter feeds from Jaffe and Sherwood.

Trinity instructor Dowan McNair-Lee ’07 has been using “Dream City” in her Critical Reading Seminar this semester.  When the authors learned from President Pat McGuire that her classes were reading their book, they immediately offered to come to Trinity to discuss the book with students and the entire Trinity community.

“They are truly a remarkable pair of political journalists and well worth taking some time from the day to engage in listening, discussion and debate with them,” said President McGuire.

The program will be a talk show format and there will be plenty of time to ask questions.
