Trinity Students Inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, Political Honor Society

Five students were inducted as full members into Trinity’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, and seven were inducted as associate members at a ceremony on April 21, 2009. Dr. Donna Middleton-Cooper, senior public affairs manager for Pepco, gave the keynote address. Dr. Shelley Tomkin, professor of political science and advisor to the chapter, presided over the ceremonies.

The five new full members inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha met the requirements for membership: Have at least junior standing, at least 18 total credit hours of political science, including a 400 level course, and at least a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.0 in all political science courses taken at Trinity. The full members inducted are: Shaneka Green, Nicole Newman, Denise Maravilla, Caitlin Rude and Elizabeth Zamorski.

Associate members must complete at least 9 credit hours of political science at Trinity with at least a 3.0 in those courses. New associate members inducted are: Rebeka Bautista, Kindra Cantrell, Sarah Mihalus, Morgan Kellman, Brigid Otieno, Grace Petit and Ambika Ramnath.

Middleton-Cooper stressed the importance of education and reflected on her commitment to civic engagement. She encouraged the inductees to be “resilient in achieving your goals.” Middleton-Cooper earned her undergraduate degree in political science from South Carolina State University; received her master’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania; and earned her doctorate in political science from Howard University.Pi Sigma Alpha
