Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Mathematics beginning fall 2018.  The successful candidate will be nominated for designation as a Clare Boothe Luce Professor of Mathematics: the Luce Program guidelines restrict Luce professorships to women who are recent or early-career Ph.Ds and who are U.S. citizens or have permanent residency in the U.S. Luce appointments offer qualified candidates exceptional support in teaching and scholarship directly related to teaching and researching in the faculty member’s field.

This position is responsible for undergraduate Mathematics instruction in Trinity’s historic women’s college, the College of Arts and Sciences. The normal teaching load is three courses per semester; additional responsibilities include student advising and faculty service.  A doctorate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a directly related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise and teaching experience in advanced and applied statistics.

Applicants should be willing and able to teach a wide range of math courses in liberal arts mathematics, including introductory courses, with a focus on advanced and applied statistics.  Preference to candidates with potential to contribute to programming in bioinformatics, applied healthcare statistics, or other applied statistics fields.  In addition to being passionate and dedicated to enhancing students’ quantitative reasoning skills, candidates must have the ability to integrate and infuse technology into their classroom pedagogy, should be enthusiastic in developing nontraditional, interdisciplinary math courses, be collaborative in promoting STEM undergraduate research, and be willing to pursue professional development opportunities.
