Associate Dean of the School of Education


Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks an experienced, energetic leader to serve as associate dean of the School of Education. The School of Education prepares educators, administrators, counselors, and educational reformers to contribute to positive change in education and mental health in the D.C. region.  Reporting to the dean of the School of Education, the associate dean works in collaboration with the dean and the School of Education faculty to ensure excellence in academic programs and to support student success.  The associate dean is responsible for oversight of the data collection and assessment processes that support program accreditation, particularly for CAEP and CACREP, and related management of data analytics supporting academic advising and program assessment.  The associate dean also is responsible for developing and managing institutional partnerships that relate to clinical placement of student teachers and counselors as required by the respective programs.  With the dean, the associate dean will participate in the development of faculty continuing education programs particularly for faculty development in the use of Moodle and digital tools, new pedagogies and curricular innovation.

The successful candidate should have experience with specialized professional accreditation notably CAEP and CACREP.  Experience in hiring and training faculty and staff for professional education, new pedagogies, including online instruction, curriculum development, active learning, and course scheduling is also essential.  Experience as a teacher and senior administrator in a K-12 system or high performing school is a plus.  Candidates with collegiate teaching experience in education or counseling as well as administration will receive preference in this search.

Data management and analysis, strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to work with diverse students, faculty, and institutions are all essential to success in this position.

Candidates must present an earned doctorate in Education or a relevant field, at least eight years of increasingly responsible experience in education (combined years of experience in K-12 and higher education acceptable), and a strong commitment to Trinity’s mission and values as an institution serving large urban education systems in the metropolitan Washington region.  English and Spanish proficiency is desirable.

Founded in 1897 as one of the nation’s first Catholic colleges for women, Trinity today is a 2100-student diversified university that continues the historic women’s college as the College of Arts & Sciences, along with four other coeducational units in professional education in the School of Education, Nursing & Health Professions, the School of Professional Studies and Business & Graduate Studies. Trinity has about 12,000 alumnae and alumni, with the majority residing in the metropolitan Washington area.
