Trinity, a comprehensive university in Washington, D.C., invites applications for a tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor of Sociology beginning fall 2017. The successful candidate will join a strong team of faculty in Trinity’s historic women’s college, the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful applicant will be a dynamic generalist with a global perspective who can cover the range of courses in Trinity’s sociology major, further develop an interdisciplinary curriculum, and teach courses at both introductory and advanced levels (including Sociological Theory). Trinity, a teaching-centered university, seeks candidates with demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse faculty on interdisciplinary approaches as well as a commitment to general education in the liberal arts integrating professional preparation. Because of Trinity’s emphasis on teaching excellence, Trinity encourages applications from candidates with a proven record of outstanding teaching in addition to a scholarly agenda.
Applicants should have Ph.D. in Sociology, with that doctorate earned by the position’s start date; strong teaching recommendations; and the ability to present evidence of a commitment to innovative pedagogy that incorporates multiple methods of working with a diverse learning population. The successful candidate will practice the scholarship of integration while promoting new and innovative ways of teaching and learning Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to integrate and infuse technology into classroom teaching; be open to nontraditional, creative teaching strategies; and be willing to pursue professional development opportunities relevant to the position and in support of student success. Candidates will also advise students and contribute to a vibrant culture of teaching and learning with a student-centered focus. English and Spanish proficiency are desirable.
