Vice President For Development


Trinity in Washington seeks a seasoned fund raising professional to organize and direct all fund raising programs of the university.  One of the nation’s historic Catholic women’s colleges now serving a remarkably diverse population of students, Trinity today serves more than 2,600 students in four academic schools.  The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) continues as Trinity’s full-time daytime undergraduate women’s college.  Three coeducational units — the School of Professional Studies, School of Education, and School of Nursing and Health Professions — educate women and men for a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The Vice President for Development is a new position at Trinity, reporting directly to the President and work in in close cooperation with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement who manages and directs media relations, publications and online communications, and alumnae affairs.

The VP Development is responsible for planning, prospect management, staff development, communications and systems for the full range of fund raising activities, including the Annual Fund, Second Century Campaign, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, donor relations and stewardship, development communications, volunteer management and events.

Candidates must have a strong track record of success in managing fund raising programs in universities or closely comparable organizations.  Annual fund as well as capital campaign experience is essential.  Strong ability to supervise staff to meet goals, to manage volunteers, to cultivate and motivate major donors, to create effective systems for donor communications, to work with trustees and the president as well as other senior administrators are all vital components of a strong application for this position.

Trinity is a small institution with limited budget capacity, so candidates must be willing to do hands-on development work, from writing letters and proposals to setting up travel schedules to meet with prospects, to composing stewardship reports.   Candidates must demonstrate excellence in writing as well as oral communication.
