Associate Provost for Faculty Development


Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks an Associate Provost who will be a part of a dynamic and diversified team in the Office of Academic Affairs.  Trinity emphasizes excellence and innovation in teaching and learning across a full range of liberal arts and professional disciplines in undergraduate and graduate education. Reporting directly to the Provost and working with other associate provosts, the collegiate deans, and other senior administrators, the Associate Provost will support Trinity’s mission, particularly through working to support faculty development across all four of Trinity’s collegiate units, with a focus on ensuring academic quality across the University and sustaining an atmosphere of intellectual vibrancy with student learning and success at its core.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Associate Provost will work with senior colleagues as well as faculty and staff on a variety of projects that will include faculty development and assessment as well as policy review and development and other issues vital to ensuring quality academic programming and strategic development at Trinity.  In a fast-paced environment that focuses on multiple initiatives simultaneously, the successful candidate must be able to take a lead role on specific projects while serving in a supporting capacity in others.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a terminal degree in a discipline taught at Trinity (Ph.D. preferred) and a minimum of five years in higher education administration with teaching experience in higher education, preferably in a comparable private institution that emphasizes exceptional teaching.   The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and communication skills (including but not limited to writing proficiency and public speaking skills appropriate for diverse audiences); pay strong attention to detail while simultaneously demonstrating prowess with strategic planning and implementation; have strong and directly relevant experience with faculty development and assessment; be able to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while retaining a strong rapport with colleagues both within and outside of the institution; demonstrate an exceptional capacity for working as part of a team; and have a track record for creative engagement with faculty, staff, and students in supporting their work in teaching and research.
