The Associate Vice President for Admissions


Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks an experienced Associate Vice President to join the leadership team for Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, the university’s historic women’s college now enrolling more than 1,000 students in full-time daytime undergraduate programs. Trinity seeks a senior level manager with high energy, exceptional recruitment and admissions experience, the ability to motivate and mentor a team, and a deep commitment to ensuring educational opportunity for women. Trinity’s student body is highly diverse; more than 90% of the student body is African American, Latina and international. Recruiting is largely regional, with most Trinity students from D.C. and the surrounding metropolitan Washington region.

The Associate Vice President will be an innovative and creative leader, providing leadership in planning, developing, executing and assessing a strategic enrollment management plan for the Admissions team in addition to a focus on the recruitment of new students.

This position includes planning and executing strategies and tactics to enroll at least 400 new students in the fall and 125 in the spring.  The successful candidate must have familiarity with strategies and tactics for success in recruitment through enrollment.  The Associate Vice President will be managing all aspects of recruiting and admissions, e.g., participation in college fairs; all prospect, applicant, and enrollee communications; final review of all case files; awarding of merit scholarship; supervision of and accountability for recruitment staff, management and supervision of on-campus admissions events, and group visits, etc.  Evening and weekend work is sometimes necessary and expected when working toward goals.

The successful candidate must have 10-12 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in admissions and enrollment management.  Evidence of knowledge and experience in recruitment, retention and enrollment management is required.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully assume the leadership responsibilities of this complex and engaging position include the following: effective personal communication, ability to build and farm relationships that benefit the recruitment goals of the institution; ability to envision and lead change; strategic human resources skill; and the ability to creatively lead, develop, and build an effective team.

Progressively responsible experience in a comparable institution, along with a proven track record of success in meeting goals, managing staff and achieving results is a must.  Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, are essential.  A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, masters preferred.
