Associate Provost


Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks an Associate Provost who will be a part of a dynamic team in the Office of Academic Affairs.  Trinity emphasizes excellence and innovation in teaching and learning across a full range of liberal arts and professional disciplines in undergraduate and graduate education. Reporting directly to the Provost and working with other associate provosts, the collegiate deans, and other senior administrators, the Associate Provost will support Trinity’s mission, including but not limited to ensuring academic quality across the University in sustaining an atmosphere of intellectual vibrancy with student learning and success at its core.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Associate Provost will work with senior colleagues as well as faculty and staff on a variety of projects that may include academic scheduling, faculty development, assessment, policy development and review, and other issues vital to ensuring quality academic programming at Trinity.  As part of the Academic Affairs team, the successful candidate must be able to take a lead role on specific projects while serving in a supporting capacity in others.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for the Associate Provost position must have a terminal degree in a discipline taught at Trinity (Ph.D. preferred) and a minimum of five years in higher education administration with at least three years of teaching experience in higher education, preferably in a comparable private institution that emphasizes teaching.   The successful candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills (including but not limited to writing proficiency and public speaking skills appropriate for diverse audiences); pay strong attention to detail while simultaneously demonstrating prowess with strategic planning and implementation; have strong and directly relevant experience with programmatic and institutional assessment; be able to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while retaining a strong rapport with colleagues both within and outside of the institution; demonstrate an exceptional capacity for working as part of a team; and have a track record for creative engagement with faculty, staff, and students in supporting their work in teaching and research.
