Assistant Professor of Counseling


Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Counseling beginning Fall 2012. The successful applicant will teach a range of courses in Trinity’s graduate Counseling program, offered through the School of Education.  The program, one of Trinity’s fastest-growing disciplines, offers MA degrees in School Counseling (48 credits) and Counseling (60 credits).  


Candidates must have a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Counseling or a directly-related discipline. Additionally, they must have a license to practice counseling or be eligible to obtain such a license.  Because of Trinity’s focus on teaching excellence, the successful candidate will have a proven record of outstanding teaching, with at least two years of teaching at the university level desirable.   Candidates should also have strong awareness of trends in the Counseling field in addition to direct experience that will support Trinity’s outcomes.  The normal teaching load for tenure-track faculty is three courses a semester; student advising is also a fundamental responsibility for faculty. 


Given the Counseling program’s dynamic growth and Trinity’s interest in continuing to develop programs in the social and behavioral sciences (including at the undergraduate level), the successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in programmatic development and ongoing assessment.  Additionally, the faculty member will work with colleagues in developing and supporting internship and practica opportunities required for all students and offered in a variety of local clinical and school settings.
