When Medical Conditions Become Emergencies

Student Guide to Emergencies

Listed below are symptoms that discern when a medical condition becomes an emergency. If you or someone you know is exhibiting any of these symptoms, contact Public Safety at extension 9111 orĀ (202-884-9111).

  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
  • Severe chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
  • Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Confusion or changes in mental status
  • Suicidal or Homicidal thoughts
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • Difficulty speaking
