Conversations Between Presidents: Sr. Margaret Claydon

Current Trinity Washington University’s President Patricia McGuire ’74 interviews former Trinity President, Sr. Margaret Claydon ’45, and discuss the great changes that have taken place over the years at Trinity.

Sr. Margaret Claydon, Sister of Notre Dame de Namur, Trinity College Class of 1945, was appointed the 10th president of Trinity College in 1959. At age 36, she was the youngest president to lead Trinity and one of the youngest college presidents in the nation. During her tenure as president for 16 years, until 1975, she provided leadership for important growth and change at Trinity.

The Student government president during Sr. Margaret’s presidency, Patricia McGuire, graduated from Trinity in 1974. In 1989, she was appointed president, at age 36. In May 2015, on the occasion of Sr. Margaret’s 70th Reunion, President McGuire had a conversation with President Claydon, Emerita, reflecting on her years at Trinity and Trinity today.
