At Trinity we believe that all educators should be prepared to work with students with disabilities. This program focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities to teach students with and without disabilities in inclusive settings. This program is the first and only dual licensure MAT program offered by a university in the District of Columbia. The dual licensure options include: Early Childhood Education and Special Education, Elementary Education and Special Education, or Secondary Education and Special Education. Candidates will graduate with an MAT in their primary focus (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/programs\/early-childhood-education-mat\/\">Early Childhood Education<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/programs\/elementary-education-mat\/\">Elementary Education<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/programs\/secondary-education-mat\/\">Secondary Education<\/a>) and receive licensure in that primary focus area AND Special Education. Candidates may also choose to opt in to the program during their first year of study AFTER completing the introductory course in special education (<span style=\"\" title=\"NO MATCHING EVENT ID FOUND IN DATABASE\" >EDCC 530<\/span>) .<\/p>\n<span id=\"How_do_I_opt_in_to_the_Dual_Licensure_Program\"><h3>How do I opt in to the Dual Licensure Program?<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>Meet with your advisor to develop a Dual Licensure Program of Study. Once that Program of Study is developed, you may begin taking the necessary courses in special education reflected in the program of study.<\/p>\n<span id=\"How_much_longer_does_it_take_to_complete_the_Dual_License_Program\"><h3>How much longer does it take to complete the Dual License Program?<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>The program requires four additional courses. This typically results in only two additional semesters.<\/p>\n<span id=\"What_courses_in_Special_Education_are_required\"><h3>What courses in Special Education are required?<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>This program requires four courses in Special Education (in addition to the introductory course, <span style=\"\" title=\"NO MATCHING EVENT ID FOUND IN DATABASE\" >EDCC 530<\/span>). The courses include:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\" title=\"NO MATCHING EVENT ID FOUND IN DATABASE\" >EDTE 629<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"\" title=\"NO MATCHING EVENT ID FOUND IN DATABASE\" >EDTE 630<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"\" title=\"NO MATCHING EVENT ID FOUND IN DATABASE\" >EDTE 634<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"\" title=\"NO MATCHING EVENT ID FOUND IN DATABASE\" >EDTE 691<\/span><\/p>\n<span id=\"Do_I_have_to_complete_a_Student_Teaching_Internship_in_Special_Education_AND_my_primary_focus_area\"><h3>Do I have to complete a Student Teaching Internship in Special Education AND my primary focus area?<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>No. You do not have to complete a Student Teaching Internship course in Special Education. However, you are required to complete <span style=\"\" title=\"NO MATCHING EVENT ID FOUND IN DATABASE\" >EDTE 691<\/span> which requires 100 hours working with students with disabilities in a school. You must complete this practicum prior to your Student Teaching Internship in your primary focus area. Upon completion of all of your coursework, you will complete your Student Teaching Internship in your primary focus area (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and\u00a0Secondary Education).<\/p>\n<span id=\"Do_I_have_to_pass_the_PraxisII_in_my_focus_area_and_in_special_education\"><h3>Do I have to pass the Praxis\u00a0II in my focus area and in special education?<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>Yes.
