The program’s courses challenge students to critically analyze financial statements and the cost structure of organizations and to make ethical managerial decisions with full knowledge of the regulatory environment. Courses routinely use case studies and group projects in order to put students in a manager’s seat, giving them the opportunity to assess and analyze complex situations, determine the relative importance of internal and external variables affecting organizational goals and make optimal and ethical decisions.

The major is designed to meet the undergraduate degree requirements for the Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) exam for both D.C. and Maryland. (Graduates will need to accrue 150 college credit hours, however, before sitting for the exam.) With a strong foundation in ethics, business law, and regulatory knowledge, the curriculum also covers forensic accounting, which helps prepare students to be Certified Fraud Examiners (C.F.E.s).

The final year of study includes a semester-long externship in the fall that continues into a capstone experience in the spring.

Major Requirements

Co-Requisite Courses (9 credits)
ECON 101
ECON 102
PHIL 253

Functional Core Courses (30 credits)
BADM 101
BADM 205
BADM 213
BADM 221
BADM 223
BADM 231
BADM 243
BADM 325
BADM 373
ACCT 360

Professional Skills Courses (18 credits)
BADM 241
COM 290
ENGL 209
BADM 251
BADM 491
BADM 499

Professional Accounting Courses (21 credits)
ACCT 301
ACCT 302
ACCT 311
ACCT 401
ACCT 411
ACCT 421
ACCT 451

Program Policies

Advanced Placement:
Credits earned through AP examinations do not fulfill requirements of the Accounting program.

CLEP Policy:
Credits earned through CLEP examinations may fulfill requirements of the Accounting program.
