During their senior year in CAS, students will complete their Psychology courses while also beginning their Counseling coursework.\u00a0This program is especially ideal for a Trinity undergraduate Psychology student who plans to work part- or full-time after her CAS graduation while pursuing her Master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n<p>CAS Psychology majors interested in the B.A. to M.A. program should first talk to their CAS academic advisor and then\u00a0complete a Pre-Application Screening Form in the fall of their junior year.\u00a0Once it is determined that the student is a good match for the B.A. to M.A. program, the student will complete the formal admissions application process.\u00a0Students may apply to complete either the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/catalog-16-17\/counseling\/\"> M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling<\/a> or the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinitydc.edu\/catalog-16-17\/school-counseling\/\"> M.A. in School Counseling<\/a> (with or without the Counseling Urban Populations specialization).<\/p>\n<span id=\"Selection_Criteria\"><h2>Selection Criteria<\/h2><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Students must have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average.<\/li>\n<li>Students must complete a Pre-Application Screening Form.<\/li>\n<li>Students must complete the admissions application, including a personal statement that shows evidence of interest in\u00a0and commitment to a career either\u00a0as a School Counselor or as a\u00a0Licensed Professional Counselor (or both).<\/li>\n<li>Students must have recommendations from\u00a0two (2) full-time CAS Psychology faculty who can attest to the student\u2019s intellectual, interpersonal, and emotional maturity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<span id=\"Timeline\"><h2>Timeline<\/h2><\/span>\n<p>Specific dates will be set for the following deadlines each year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Early December, Junior Year: <\/b>Student submits Pre-Application Screening Form<\/li>\n<li><b>End of January, Junior Year: <\/b>Selected student submits official M.A. in Counseling admissions application<\/li>\n<li><b>Early- to Mid-March, Junior Year: <\/b>EDU mails admissions decisions<\/li>\n<li><b>Mid-March, Junior Year:\u00a0 <\/b>Registration opens for both PSYC (CAS) and COUN (EDU) courses<\/li>\n<li><strong>Senior Year: <\/strong>Student takes both PSYC and COUN courses<\/li>\n<li><strong>Post-CAS Graduation: <\/strong>Student completes COUN courses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students with questions about the program or application process should contact their academic advisor and\/or a full-time faculty member in the psychology program.<\/p>\n<span id=\"Senior_Year_Requirements\"><h2>Senior Year Requirements<\/h2><\/span>\n<span id=\"Graduate_Student_Orientation\"><h3>Graduate Student Orientation<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>All accepted students\u00a0attend a mandatory New Student Orientation in EDU, the date of which\u00a0is communicated in the acceptance letter.\u00a0Students will meet administrators, faculty and staff in the School of Education.\u00a0Essential information on important dates, policies and procedures is shared, including the importance of professional dispositions in a graduate professional program. Students will also have an opportunity to interact with fellow colleagues in their programs.<\/p>\n<span id=\"EDCC_601:_Tools_forGraduate_SchoolSeminar\"><h3>EDCC 601: Tools for\u00a0Graduate School\u00a0Seminar<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>Students must enroll in the Orientation: Tools for Graduate School seminar\u00a0(EDCC 601)\u00a0during the fall term of their senior year in CAS. This seminar provides students with the essential skills and resources needed\u00a0to succeed in graduate school.\u00a0Students must also take the Writing Assessment when they meet with their new Counseling advisor to discuss registration. Students who do not demonstrate minimal standards to qualify for graduate writing must enroll in the mandatory EDCC 511 (Professional Writing).<\/p>\n<span id=\"Advising\"><h3>Advising<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>Each incoming B.A. to M.A. student will be assigned to a Counseling program faculty advisor from the time she begins the program.
