!important; font-weight:bold; line-height:normal; display:block}\n        <\/style><\/p>\n<span id=\"Description\"><h2>Description<\/h2><\/span>\n<p>Sociology is the scientific study and interpretation of group life.\u00a0 It provides a human perspective on the study of urban life, family patterns and relationships, work, and organizational structures.\u00a0\u00a0 Gender, race, social class, social change, and current social issues are the focus of research and analysis.<\/p>\n<p>The primary goal of this program is to enable students to develop a \"sociological imagination,\" giving them the ability to connect individual private experience with social structure through concrete experiences and a strong theoretical perspective.\u00a0 Teaching this deceptively simple insight, that people are affected by social forces and that social institutions are affected by their members, is the major focus of the discipline.<\/p>\n<p>Majoring in sociology prepares students for graduate school and a wide variety of careers, such as social psychology, social research, social work, public administration, business, education, market research, law, and community planning.<\/p>\n<p>A sociology major and minor are offered to students in the College of Arts and Sciences.\u00a0 The sociology program also supports the criminal justice and human relations to earn a grade of &#8220;C-&#8221; (1.7) or better in all courses counted to fulfill requirements for the major\u00a0with the exception of SOCY 499 (Senior Seminar).\u00a0 In that course, students must earn a grade of &#8220;C&#8221; (2.0) to fulfill the requirements for\u00a0the major.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pass\/No Pass:<\/strong><br \/>\nCourses fulfilling major requirements may not be taken pass\/no pass.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Senior Assessment:<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents will fulfill their senior assessment through the senior seminar, which is to be taken within 2 semesters of graduation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TELL Policy:<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents applying for credit in experiential learning should consult with the program faculty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transfer
