display:block}\n        <\/style><\/p>\n<span id=\"Description\"><h2>Description<\/h2><\/span>\n<p>The Health Science program educates students to enhance the quality of life, health, and well-being of individuals in society throughout the lifespan; a second\u00a0concentration prepares students for graduate programs in physical therapy.\u00a0 The program focuses on promoting healthier lifestyles physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.\u00a0 Depending on which concentration students choose, completing the program successfully equips\u00a0them with the tools to enter the fitness industry or pursue physical therapy graduate education.<\/p>\n<p>The program also affords students the opportunity for experiential learning through various fieldwork experiences in such environments as hospitals, rehabilitation settings, work hardening facilities, and fitness facilities.<\/p>\n<span id=\"Areas_of_Concentration\"><h2>Areas of Concentration<\/h2><\/span>\n<span id=\"Health_Fitness\"><h3>Health Fitness<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>Students in the Health Science Program's Health Fitness\u00a0concentration learn to help people make life choices that promote wellness.\u00a0 Graduates will promote personal fitness, strength and conditioning or will\u00a0work in health and wellness programs.<\/p>\n<span id=\"Pre-Physical_Therapy\"><h3>Pre-Physical Therapy<\/h3><\/span>\n<p>Students in the Health Science Pre-Physical Therapy\u00a0concentration take courses that prepare them to continue into graduate programs in physical therapy.<\/p>\n<span (21 credits)<\/p>\n<span id=\"Additional_Requirements\"><h2>Additional Requirements<\/h2><\/span>\n<p><strong>Health Science Senior Assessment<\/strong><br \/>\nThe senior assessment in exercise xcience is not a comprehensive exam but is rather a senior comprehensive portfolio project that requires students to reflect on, assess and document their own academic progress and learning. Specific requirements and due dates are distributed to seniors in the fall semester of their graduation year. In order to prepare the portfolio self-assessment, students should keep copies of written course work, graded papers and exams from all psychology, sociology, biology, ethics and exercise science courses they have taken. While requirements for the portfolio vary slightly from year to year, students are generally required to assess several academic products in completing a short narrative of their academic experience as well as complete an evidence-based research paper. Students must submit the portfolio by the due date (end of January) in their graduation year and must receive a grade of C or higher in order to graduate. Portfolios submitted after the due date will not be considered for graduation in that semester.<\/p>\n<p>BLS\/CPR certification is required for the Health Care Provider.<\/p>\n<p>Internship placement sites may have additional health or safety requirements that students must meet prior to receiving access to the internship site.<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: No student will be allowed to participate in internship experiences unless and until these other requirements have been satisfied.<\/p>\n<p>Transportation:\u00a0 Students are required to provide their own transportation to and from Internship placement sites.
