Honoring our tradition as a liberal  arts Catholic college for women, Trinity offers this curriculum in order to  foster and sustain in our students growth in the knowledge, skills, and values  inherent in the liberal arts.<\/p>\n<span id=\"Curricular_Areas_of_the_General__Education_Curriculum\"><h2><a name=\"Curricular\"><\/a>Curricular Areas of the General  Education Curriculum<\/h2><\/span>\n<p>The general education curriculum focuses on four different curricular areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#Foundational_Skills\">Foundational Skills<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Knowledge_and_Inquiry\">Knowledge and Inquiry<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Values_and_Beliefs\">Values and Beliefs <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Applications\">Applications: Turning Knowledge into Action<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<span id=\"Goals_of_the_General_Education_Curriculum\"><h2><a name=\"Goals_General\"><\/a>Goals of the General Education Curriculum<\/h2><\/span>\n<p>Over the course of four years, students take courses within each of these  areas to achieve eight goals linked to the completion of the general education  curriculum. As a result of successfully completing Trinity\u2019s general education  curriculum, students will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Read, understand, and analyze texts<\/li>\n<li>Communicate effectively in speech and in writing<\/li>\n<li>Understand and use quantitative reasoning to solve problems<\/li>\n<li>Locate, evaluate, and synthesize information in the construction of  knowledge<\/li>\n<li>Explore and connect fields of knowledge in the liberal arts<\/li>\n<li>Apply diverse modes of inquiry to the study of human societies and  the natural world<\/li>\n<li>Develop facility for moral reasoning and examine the moral and  religious dimensions of human experience;<\/li>\n<li>Develop capacities for responsible citizenship and leadership in  diverse<strong> <\/strong>communities<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<span id=\"The_First_Year_Experience\"><h2><a name=\"First_Year\"><\/a>The First Year Experience<\/h2><\/span>\n<p>Trinity is particularly committed to helping students achieve goals during  their first year at the University. These first year experience goals are  designed to support the goals and objectives for the general education  curriculum. The major goal of the first year experience is that students will  develop the skills needed for academic success, including the ability to manage  time efficiently, study effectively, and take responsibility for their own  learning.<\/p>\n<p>As outlined below, each curricular area and the goals associated with it  foster the development of particular skills during the student\u2019s first year  experience.<\/p>\n<span id=\"Foundational_Skills\"><h3><a name=\"Foundational_Skills\"><\/a>Foundational Skills<\/h3><\/span>\n<p><strong>Goal 1: Read, understand, and analyze texts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><em>First Year  Experience Goal 1: Students will develop their abilities to read, understand,  and analyze texts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Objectives: Students will demonstrate ability to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the text\u2019s thesis or themes, main points, and types and quality of  evidence<\/li>\n<li>Paraphrase or summarize the content and meaning of the text<\/li>\n<li>Identify the text\u2019s purpose and audience<\/li>\n<li>Identify the text&#8217;s thesis or themes, main points, and types and quality of  evidence<\/li>\n<li>Identify the author\u2019s organizational and rhetorical strategies<\/li>\n<li>Recognize strengths, weaknesses, and inconsistencies in the text<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goal 2: Communicate effectively in speech and in  writing<em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>First Year Experience Goal 2: Students will develop  their abilities to communicate effectively in speech and in writing<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Objectives: Students will demonstrate ability to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communicate clearly, coherently, and grammatically<\/li>\n<li>Communicate using rational argumentation<\/li>\n<li>Communicate using a variety of rhetorical strategies<\/li>\n<li>Adapt writing and speaking to a variety of purposes and audiences<\/li>\n<li>Adhere to standards and principles of academic integrity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goal 3: Understand and use quantitative reasoning to solve  problems<em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>First Year Experience Goal 3: Students will develop  their abilities to understand and use quantitative reasoning to solve  problems<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Objectives: Students will demonstrate ability to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perform arithmetic and algebraic operations<\/li>\n<li>Identify and apply mathematical concepts in a variety of contexts<\/li>\n<li>Represent, interpret, and analyze quantitative information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><strong>Goal 4: Locate, evaluate, and synthesize information in the  construction of knowledge<em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><em>First Year Experience Goal 4:  Students will develop their abilities to locate, evaluate, and synthesize  information in the construction of knowledge.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Objectives<strong>: <\/strong>Students will demonstrate ability to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Locate resources relevant to the task<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate the quality, credibility, and relevance of sources and the  information contained in sources<\/li>\n<li>Integrate and cite sources according to standards of academic honesty<\/li>\n<li>Use common computer applications in word processing, spreadsheets,  presentations, email, and the internet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<span id=\"Knowledge_amp_Inquiry\"><h3><a name=\"Knowledge_and_Inquiry\"><\/a>Knowledge &amp; Inquiry<\/h3><\/span>\n<p><strong>Goal 5: Explore and connect fields of knowledge in the liberal  arts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><em>First Year Experience Goal 5: Students will begin to explore and  connect fields of knowledge in the liberal arts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Objectives: Students will<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Acquire breadth of knowledge in the arts and humanities, natural sciences,  and social sciences<\/li>\n<li>Identify links and relationships across disciplines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em><strong>Goal 6: Apply diverse modes of inquiry to the study of human  societies and the natural world<\/strong><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>First Year Experience Goal 6: Students  will begin to apply diverse modes of inquiry to their studies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Objectives: Students will<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pose questions, define problems, and investigate possible solutions using  multiple modes of inquiry<\/li>\n<li>Apply modes of inquiry to new settings and questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<span id=\"Values_amp_Beliefs\"><h3><a name=\"Values_and_Beliefs\"><\/a>Values &amp;
