Dedication: Saturday, November 23, 2002 Remarks for the Dedication
of the Trinity Center I bring you greetings on behalf of the President of the Alumnae Association,
Betsey Griffith class of ’78 and the members of the Alumnae Board. Is this sports complex breath-taking or what? The Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports — what a huge accomplishment — what a wonderful gift for this community and what a great addition for the young women here — who now in addition to great intellectual and spiritual pursuits can also engage in a wonderful array of athletic competition and activities while getting and keeping in shape and having the chance to just soak in the beauty of this magnificent facility. I am here to bring greetings from the Alumnae Association which is proud as it can be of all that this represents… those of us who live in the area are already talking about how many pounds we are going to lose, how many games we plan to come see — but we also share the College’s vision. Those of us who participated in athletics before this was even dreamed of — are overwhelmed with the possibilities — we remember our time fondly but we also recognize the huge advantage this will give young women who come here. That is why the Association pledged $150,000 to help meet the Kresge Foundation challenge. We also made this pledge to inspire ALL alumnae to make pledges to the Centennial Campaign. The Alumnae Association has a unique position — we make up Trinity’s past and yet we also stand proudly as a partner to help with its future. Today we celebrate with the entire Trinity community — as we enter a new chapter in this great institution’s history. It is truly a blessing and we are delighted to be part of it!
