THEARC in SE Washington

Trinity provides continuing education programs, college-level courses and other educational services to THEARC in Southeast Washington, D.C..

THEARC – Town Hall Education, Arts and Recreation Campus – is an innovative concept that is bringing a range of first-rate services and programs to D.C. residents east of the Anacostia River and a new vitality to the community. Created by the William C. Smith Companies and supported by several foundations, THEARC is a multi-purpose facility with a theatre, classrooms, gymnasium, recording studio, computer center, a pediatric clinic and studios for art and music. The new 110,000 square foot, $26.5 million facility on 16.5 acres of land on Mississippi Avenue, SE, in Ward 8, opened in summer 2005.

Programs at THEARC are provided by a collaboration of partner organizations. A distinctive, joint-use facility, THEARC offers a dedicated, permanent home to an array of the city’s top cultural and social services providers bringing art, music, dance, education, health, recreation, and social services programs to children, adults, and seniors east of the Anacostia River.

Trinity is the only university that was invited to participate in THE ARC and is now the only private university offering college-level classes east of the Anacostia River.

President Patricia McGuire, in announcing Trinity’s participation in THEARC, noted that “One of the most exciting aspects of THEARC is the distinguished group of organizations that will be providing programming in the facility. We believe that Trinity can make a tremendous difference in the community and at THEARC. Trinity is very proud to be a part of this innovative new resource for the community.”

THEARC is minutes from downtown Washington, D.C., near the Southern Avenue Metro Station on the Green Line, and is convenient to southern Maryland via the Suitland Parkway.
