Constitution Day and Ferguson Revisited Event

Friday, September 26, 5:00 pm - Trinity Washington University- Social Hall

In response to the events in Ferguson, MO and around the country, SPS would like to sponsor a panel to discuss how and when parents discuss how to behave when confronted by police.   People will tell their stories about “the talk.”

In response to the killing of Amadou Diallo by four NYPD officers in 1999, Bruce Springsteen wrote “American Skin (41 Shots) where he imagined this conversation:

“Lena gets her son ready for school

She says, “On these streets, Charles

You’ve got to understand the rules

If an officer stops you, promise me you’ll always be polite

And that you’ll never ever run away

Promise Mama you’ll keep your hands in sight”
