City Kids Wilderness Project is hiring for several part-time positions: Afterschool Educator and Office Manager.

City Kids Wilderness Project is a non-profit organization founded on the belief that providing enriching life experiences for underserved and at-risk D.C. children can enhance their lives, the lives of their families and the greater community.

Afterschool Educator:
The Afterschool Educator will work with the Director of Afterschool Programs to develop and implement afterschool programming, assisting in the development of unique curriculum, at times working independently. This will include preparing materials for lessons and activities, as well as working independently to teach the lessons in a manner consistent with the vision and mission of the program.
We are seeking candidates that have a passion and interest in middle school education, youth development, program development and design, and who are able to work in the outdoors as well as in a classroom. Candidates must have a passion for the outdoors, and be able to share and encourage that passion with CKWP youth. Candidates should have experience with several of the following activities: hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, trip planning, trip leading, and other outdoor activities. The Afterschool Educator may also assist in building partnerships with schools and local organizations to recruit new students for the program.
This candidate must be available during after school program hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 7:30pm and on occasional weekends for day or overnight trips. Additional hours may be available based on candidate interest and organizational need.
Office Manager:
The Office Manager is a key support staff for program operations. The position involves considerable independent work as well as working as an effective member of a team. Primary responsibilities include:
• Assisting with financial operations including processing purchase orders and bills, entering expenses into QuickBooks, assisting with monthly financial reconciliations
• Parent, student, volunteer, community, donor, and board communications (including phone calls, letters, emails, newsletters, board meeting packets, etc.)
• Student information tracking including file management and entering data into our database
• Maintaining inventory of office supplies and placing orders as necessary
• Program support including assisting program staff in program planning, preparation and follow up
• General office support including managing mailings, helping student interns on office projects, and other duties as assigned by the Director and Program Directors

Program Background
The Clark Teaching Fellows Program is a one to two year full-time teaching fellowship offered by the Septima Clark Public Charter School. Clark Fellows are given the opportunity to closely apprentice with an experienced teacher, completing a full practicum of hands-on classroom experience and engaging in the full spectrum of responsibilities taken on by teachers. Successful completion of the fellowship can lead to a full-time teaching position with Septima Clark. Clark Fellows are recent college graduates or seasoned professionals changing careers who are passionate about education.
Essential Responsibilities: 
Hold and convey high expectations of excellence for each student.
Exhibit positive rapport and develop strong relationships with all students.
Work closely with an experienced teacher to develop and implement lesson plans incorporating best practices in boys’ education.
Work with an experienced teacher to develop competencies in effective teaching and learning.
Work cooperatively with the experienced teacher in a professional team-based environment.
Assist with bus, lunch, and outdoor exercise duties.
Implement school-wide student management policies within classroom. 
Develop proficiency in using assessment data to improve instruction and student skill mastery.
Work closely with experienced teacher to implement school’s curriculum.
Create and foster a constructive learning environment by communicating and working in a positive, professional manner.
Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents and families.
Implement all policies, practices and procedures as required by the Principal and Academy Deans.
Consistently model school culture elements to ensure students are prepared for college. 

Qualifications: 
A belief in a highly structured, predictable, environment for children, in a no-excuses classroom. Exceptional academic record (3.0 GPA and higher and substantive extracurricular activities) and do-whatever-it-takes attitude. Bachelor degree required. Superb organizational, written and spoken communication, and collaborative skills required. Experience with children ages 3 to 10 years old mandatory. The Clark Teaching Fellowship is a full-time position with full benefits.

UELIP

The DC Public Schools’ Urban Education Leaders Internship Program (UELIP) is designed to provide undergraduate, graduate and recent graduates with the opportunity to learn about and contribute to the unique and exciting work of managing an urban school district.

The fellowship takes place in the central office of the DC Public Schools (DCPS), one of the most innovative public school districts in the United States. UELIP associates have the opportunity to participate in mission-critical projects for DCPS, and to learn about closing the achievement gap from the front lines of the district central office.
We welcome applications from rising college juniors, seniors, and recent graduates for the junior associate position. Students enrolled in graduate programs, professional degree programs, and teachers or other education professionals are invited to apply for the senior associate position.
• Fall 2012 Program Dates: September 24, 2012 – December 14, 2012
During the fall and spring terms, associates are expected to contribute a minimum of 15 hours/week of their time to UELIP. The summer program requires a minimum of 40 hours/week, though associates enrolled in summer classes may be accepted on a part-time basis.
