Position Summary and Essential Functions
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide consulting services to community development financial institutions (CDFI) and CDFI Industry stakeholders, such as banks, foundations or banks that work with CDFIs. This position leads activities in consulting engagements to improve CDFI performance, assist is implementation of investment strategies and build capacity of the CDFI Industry. In conjunction with the EVP, Strategic Consulting, the SVP, Strategic Consulting serves as a leader in the design and delivery of OFN’s full range of consultant services. Relationship management is key priority for this position.
Position Responsibilities
Lead the design and delivery of consulting engagements for the full range of consulting services:
- CDFI Performance: To help CDFIs improve their financial, operational and management performance. Topics frequently cover: business and strategic planning, lending policies and procedures, risk management, staffing, new product development, and growth or expansion planning.
- Investor Services: To help banks and foundations who invest in CDFIs to design and implement investment strategies to meet their organization’s objectives, whether it is to further the mission of the foundation or to reinforce a community reinvestment objective. Topics frequently cover: due diligence of potential investments, portfolio management of multiple investments in CDFIs, or developing a new CDFI investment strategy.
- Capacity Building Services: To help organizations, including government agencies and foundations, to build the capacity of the CDFI Industry to serve low and moderate income communities more effectively. Topics frequently cover: helping CDFIs nationally or regionally build the capacity to lend to a new sector, such as child care facilities or healthy food initiatives, helping CDFIs in a region to work collaboratively with other stakeholders in the community, and helping launch new industry-wide initiatives such as an emerging leader program.
Collaborate with staff and subcontractors to ensure the successful delivery of consulting engagements.
Build and manage successful relationships with clients, and ensure outstanding quality in all aspects of the engagement.
Contribute to the external brand awareness of consulting services.
Contribute to the development of consulting work plans, budgets and proposals.
Contribute to departmental efforts to conceive, develop and deploy codified consulting products.
Contribute to the development of staff members as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or 12 years work experience; graduate degree a plus.
7+ years of experience in a leadership role in banking, lending, or a CDFI required
Strong writing, financial and analytical experience required
Experience in risk management required
Extensive experience leading consulting assignments and/or training required
Experience in qualitative or quantitative research is highly beneficial
Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work constructively with diverse constituents
Ability to work with leaders of organizations, including navigating complex or challenging topics
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently or in team environment including virtual teams
Travel required (approximately 30% of time)
