The Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union is a 25 year old community development credit union serving New York City’s Lower East Side and Central Harlem, with $29 million in assets.  We are looking for someone who is experienced in providing technical assistance to microentrepreneurs and small business owners to assist our members in their businesses as well as to do outreach to businesses in our community who are not currently members of the credit union.  The position is in our Lending Department and works closely with our small business loan officer.  Due to the demographics of our community, fluency in Spanish is required.  Feel free to forward this to interested parties.

Requirements:                 B.A. degree and at least one year experience;  Bilingual Spanish/English

Employment Status:       Exempt

Job components

  1. Technical Assistance/loan review for existing members: regularly communicate with borrowers, secure and review financial statements, and visit the small businesses after the closing
    1. Objectives/business outcomes
  • More frequent and regular visits to existing small business clients to see how business is doing, identify problems before loan is endangered and how can help
  • Secure and review financial statements from businesses on regular basis 
  1. Measures of progress/success
  • Create tracking system to ensure regular visits, compare to prior frequency of visits to demonstrate progress
  • Earlier identification and intervention with problem loans
  • Improved member relationships/better serve members through more regular contact and assistance provided (qualitative measure)

 Business Outreach to prospective borrowers: outreach to individual businesses as well as technical assistance providers, community organizations and elected officials to promote LESPFCU products/services

    1. Objectives/business outcomes
  • Expand outreach to small businesses in targeted communities to secure new members/increase member base
  • Connect with small business development centers, business solutions centers, BIDs, merchant associations, community boards and other community groups to raise awareness of LESPFCU and generate pipeline of referrals
  1. Measures of progress/success
  • Track number of businesses visited to introduce LESPFCU services to and volume of new small business loans as compared to base period
  • Expanded number of relationships with technical assistance providers and community groups to improve potential referral pipeline

 Research & Marketing: quantify impact of LESPFCU loan and develop marketing pieces with marketing staffer

    1. Objectives/business outcomes
  • Determine economic impact of lending by quantifying measures such as new hires and capital improvements
  • Incorporate economic impact measures into internal marketing materials and public relations campaign 
  1. Measures of progress/success
  • Develop measurement tools and comparison to prior periods, loans
  • Increased frequency of contact with businesses that secure loans to identify measures and prospective publicity angles
  • More small business-related press materials distributed

 Underwriting: Train with/assist LESPFCU underwriter in review process and documents required.

  • Expand number of small business loans and dedicate small business point person to improve repayment likelihood
  1. Measures of progress/success
  • Delinquency reduction, expansion of number of loans (quantitative measure) as compared to base period
