City First Bank of DC needs a Senior Underwriting Specialist

City First is especially skilled in financing the acquisition and renovation of affordable housing, charter schools, facilities and working capital for nonprofit and faith based organizations and small businesses. 

They are currently seeking a Sr. Underwriting Specialist to work in our Washington, D.C. office.  

PRIMARY DUTIES

The duties of this position include reviewing loan applications from individuals and businesses, calculating the credit risk, and recommending a decision on the application. The Senior Underwriting Specialist is knowledgeable in most aspects of commercial and commercial real estate lending and has some capacity to offer expertise on loan structuring and financial assessment.  The Senior Underwriting Specialist is well trained in lending compliance and legal issues.  The individual possesses strong communication skills, and a strong knowledge of the preparation of financial spreadsheets and analysis of business and personal tax returns, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, credit reports, construction budgets, project economics, funding sources and uses, and appraisals.                                                                                                              

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or equivalent combination of training and experience from a four (4) college or university.
  • Minimum 7-10 years experience in Banking centered in financial analysis, deal structuring, and relationship and loan processing management, with a minimum of 4 years underwriting varied and complex commercial and commercial real estate credit transactions. Formal credit training preferred.
  • Very strong oral, written, and composition skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Word and Excel software applications.
