Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) seeks a highly motivated and results-oriented individual to fill the position of Senior Development Officer in the national headquarters in New York City. The position reports to the Sr. Vice President for Foundation & Corporate Relations.
LISC, widely recognized as the nation’s premier community development intermediary, has a 30 year history of providing financial and technical assistance to communitybased organizations and public entities focused on the redevelopment of urban neighborhoods and rural communities. LISC works with these groups to develop homeownership opportunities, commercial facilities, and various community building programs in such areas as employment, community safety and open space.
About the Development Department:
LISC’s national Development Department sustains and diversifies LISC’s national, private funding base (foundations, corporations, and individuals); tracks all private fundraising efforts; provides technical assistance to local offices and national programs; and represents the corporation with all national funders. The Department has staff in LISC’s New York and Washington, DC offices.
The Senior Development Officer has primary responsibility for tracking the performance of all programs and the national Development Department in reaching fundraising goals and reporting on performance to the President/CEO and Sr.Vice President for Foundation & Corporate Relations.
In addition, he/she will:
- Work with the CEO, SVP, and national Development staff to prepare for regular funder meetings and activities;
- Serve as the Department’s primary liaison with the Finance Dept. Write and edit proposals, reports, presentations, and briefs, and
- Oversee and manage the Department’s Assistant Program Officer and Administrative Assistant, who is shared with the national Communications Department.
Qualifications: Undergraduate degree required; Master’s degree or comparable experience preferred;Self-starter with at least 5 yrs experience in a complex finance and/or fundraising operation; Ability to perform across the fundraising spectrum, including financial monitoring, prospect identification, proposal writing, and donor stewardship; Intellectual agility and ability to think strategically;Experience working with nonprofit community-based organizations and knowledge of community development preferred;Excellent research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills; Positive and detail- and solution-oriented; ability to collaborate with a wide range of LISC managers and staff; andExcellent sense of humor.
