Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.)

Overview

The Master of Science in Nursing Program (MSN) at Trinity Washington University offers BSN nurses two tracks to continue their education as advanced nurses: Nursing Education and Nursing Administration.

The Nursing Education track prepares nurses to work in roles either as academic educators at universities and colleges or as clinical, unit-based educators in health care facilities. The curriculum for the education track integrates the National League for Nursing’s nurse educator competencies in all nurse educator courses and supports student development and application of the competencies from theory to practice.

The Nursing Administration track prepares nurses to lead and manage clinical units to provide quality patient care. The Nursing Administration track curriculum integrates The nursing administration tracke integrates the nurse executive competencies of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) in all nurse administrator courses and supports student development and application of the competencies from theory to practice.

Program Format

  • Hybrid format: online courses with weekend face-to-face sessions 8 times a semester.
  • 4 semesters of full-time or 6 semesters of part-time coursework.
  • Curriculum utilizes The American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN), The Essentials of Masters Education for Professional Nursing Practice and The American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics as foundations that guide the curriculums.

Program Specific Outcomes

  • Sit for the National League for Nursing Nurse Educator Certification Examination, to become a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
  • Sit for the Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) Examination to become a Certified Nurse Manager and Leader.
  • Possess the academic foundation to continue one’s education to a terminal degree.
  • Become a career educator for academic nursing education or nursing professional development in a clinical setting.
  • Lead a unit-based nursing team to impact the quality of patient care and patient outcomes.
