Department of Homeland Security Equal Employment Opportunity Informational Meeting
the Department of Homeland Security Equal Employment Opportunity
Informational Meeting
30 September 2009
On Wednesday evening about 35 SPS graduate students attended an information session presented by Ms. Michelle Ross, Director, and Ms. Linda Fresh, Federal Women’s Programs Manager of the Department of Homeland Security’s Equal Employment Opportunity office.
Ms. Ross led the evening with a discourse on the role of women in government service and the Equal Employment Opportunity act in empowering women and minorities to seek careers in the Federal Government. Ms. Ross then followed with a discussion of the current opportunities in the DHS Headquarters Office. Students were impressed with the large number of positions available just within the DHS. Then Ms. Fresh described programs such as internships and community outreach through which women gain experience in government service and learn how to apply for positions at DHS. The evening was followed with a robust question and answer session and some individual discussions with students.
Ms. Ross and Ms. Fresh were impressed with the level of intellect represented in the questions and the diverse experiences and situations the students of the Trinity School of Professional Studies represented. They are excited to consider a partnership with Trinity and look forward to empowering many Trinity scholars to earn positions in government service with the Department of Homeland Security.
Ms. Ross, Ms. Fresh, and Dr. Kelley Wood plan follow up sessions over the school year, which will be announced on this page and by Trinity email.
Dr. Wood and the Trinity School of Professional Studies are thankful to Ms. Ross and Ms. Fresh’s for their professional and informative session and their commitment to empowering women and minorities.
