Voices and Images of Trinity: Welcome, Pope Francis!

Ventura 2

That’s Trinity student Kelly Ventura practicing her welcome for Pope Francis with his likeness at the National Shrine!

Pope Francis has arrived in the United States!  He appears beaming and energized in the photos from Andrews Air Force Base where his plane from Cuba yesterday afternoon.

Business Programs Director Paul Williams sent along this photo of the Pope passing by on Massachusetts Avenue on the way to the Nunciature (the Vatican embassy in DC).

The photo has a great story: Paul’s wife Cathy snapped the pic as the Pope waved at their sons Wynne and Bryce who practiced great entrepreneurship by setting up a lemonade stand along Mass. Avenue!

Several hundred members of the Trinity community will be at the Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine today when Pope Francis canonizes Blessed Junipero Serra.  Dozens of students will also be on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Thursday morning when Pope Francis addresses Congress.  What a great week!

Please send me your photos and comments about the visit of Pope Francis!

Trinity student Kelly Ventura checked out the scene at the National Shrine this afternoon in anticipation of the great ceremonies.  What a great T-shirt!  Souvenirs galore…

Trinity Adjunct Professor of  Digital Photography Laurence Levin had the great privilege of being in Cuba for the Mass in Revolution Square.  Wow!  I can’t wait to hear his stories.  Here are two great photos from his trip:

What a remarkable moment!  Larry spent four days in Cuba visiting the old Cathedral and seminary, and he saw the Pope twice!  Larry’s first trip to Cuba was ten years ago with Best Buddies.  How great that Americans can start visiting again!

Back here at Trinity, road closures are in effect in anticipation of the afternoon Papal Mass at the Shrine — Trinity is closed today, Wednesday, September 23, but several hundred students and faculty will be heading to the Mass.

I got in on some of the papal souvenirs:

Hope to see the real Pope soon!
