Among many exciting new faculty appointments this fall, I am so pleased to announce the appointment of two exceptional scholars who are also Sisters of Notre Dame: Sister Camilla Burns, SND and Sr. Mary Johnson, SND both join the faculty as Distinguished Professors:
- Dr. Camilla Burns, S.N.D., Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies
Sr. Burns was congregational leader of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur from 2002 to 2008. She comes most recently from Liverpool Hope University where she was professor of Biblical Studies. Previously, she was director of the Institute for Pastoral Studies at Loyola University in Chicago and associate professor of Biblical Studies. She is a Trinity alumna, earning her A.B. in Physics and Mathematics at Trinity, and then her M.S. in Chemistry at the University of Notre Dame. She earned a second M.A. at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. She earned her Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.
- Dr. Mary Johnson, S.N.D., Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies and Sociology
Sr. Johnson is on leave from Emmanuel College where she is a tenured professor of Sociology and Religious Studies. A highly regarded scholar in the field of young adults and religion, she is in Washington conducting research as a senior fellow with the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University. A former member of Trinity’s Board of Trustees, including a term as vice chair, Sr. Johnson earned her B.A. cum laude at Emmanuel College, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
