Adirondack Chronicles 2012.3

Remembering Mom, who would have been 91 today, a salute to all the moms and chicks in wild places and everywhere…

Loons are extremely protective of their chicks, and they spend endless hours diving under water to get some minnows to feed the ever-hungry kids…

The great blue heron parent arrived with a flourish, perching on the edge of the nest where three youngsters appeared to be eagerly awaiting some treats…

Common merganser moms have very large broods that they keep in line for many weeks…

Wild turkeys, on the other hand, are all over the place and they seem to run well ahead of their chicks when they feel in danger….

More backwoods beauty to come….
