President's Blog: The Simpler Life
In a week in which David Letterman was defended as some kind of charming rogue for committing serial sexual harassment of his female co-workers, while the President of the United States was denounced in many circles for winning the Nobel Peace Prize, I just had to get out of town. So, after lunching on Friday with "the most powerful women of Washington" (a great group, I'm honored to know them!) I tied my kayak to the top of the car and raced to one of my favorite local mind-clearing spots: the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on the Eastern Shore.
No pollsters or pundits here, only herons and eagles and miles of waterways and forests. It's a simpler life out here in nature. The order of business is generally this:
Hunt:
Eat:
Hunt:
Eat:
Mug for the camera:
Fly Around a bit:
Sit and stare:
Show cool disdain for what Rush, Glenn, Bill, George, Chris, Katie, Brian, etc etc etc have to say:
Do the sunset show for the gawkers:
I feel better already!

Wow! What great pictures. I enjoyed "The Simpler Life" as much as you. What type of camera did you use? I need to buy a new one. By the way, this is my first reply to a blog. I don't normally read blogs or do the online "social networking" because a) there are too many out there, and b) I don't want to make it a habit because I don't have the time. Having said that, your blog is the one that I do try make a point of reading when I get the Trinity Update email. It's your fabulous photos and your insightful writings that capture my attention. Thanks for your nice comment, Evelyn. I use a Nikon D300 with a fairly long lens for the wildlife photos — a Sigma 150-500mm. I have found that nature photography is a very relaxing hobby that's also healthy…!
