Information for Employers

Why recruit at Trinity?

  • Quality:  Founded in 1897 by the Sisters of Notre Dame, Trinity was founded on the principles of service and commitment.  All Trinity students adhere to a campus-wide Honor Code in all academic and social arenas.  To continue the history of “Women Leading the Way,” Trinity faculty instills the lifelong skills of interpersonal communication, writing, analysis, critical thinking, and problem solving into each student’s academic experience.
  • Diversity: As a women’s undergraduate college, our weekday and weekend college programs attract a variety of women from all ethnic, racial, religious and generational backgrounds.  Our co-educational graduate students also represent the diverse populations that encompass the metropolitan Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia areas.

Internship Information

What is an internship?

An internship provides an opportunity for college students to obtain hands-on work experience in a professional business environment.  Students learn more about a particular field and increase their understanding of the business they are working in.

Why should I hire an intern?

Hiring an intern provides the employer with an opportunity to make an impact in their community.  Not only will the employer assist a college student in expanding their work experiences, but also the college student will assist the employer in completing essential tasks.  Internships can be paid or non-paid positions.  Most students receive college credit for an internship.  An intern’s responsibilities vary based on the needs of the employer.  For example, a student interning in a law firm may not be completing legal research or litigation, however her experiences in assisting members of the firm with projects, attending court sessions, and providing administrative assistance will increase her understanding of the operation of a law firm.

What is involved in supervising an intern?

As an on-site internship supervisor, you are responsible for meeting with the intern prior to the start of the assignment to discuss her tasks.  The student and a faculty advisor will have met to discuss the learning objectives of the assignment.  These will be outlined on an Internship Agreement.  All parties sign the agreement and receive a copy.  Your intern will receive feedback, training and supervision, as needed, not necessarily any more or less than a regular employee.  At the end of the semester, the on-site supervisor will complete an evaluation of the student.  Contact Career Services with additional questions or concerns: (202) 884-9636.
